Event Information: Jeremy Goldkorn’s talk will be on “China in the Age of American Isolation.” Aside from the tariffs, there is much for the Chinese government to like about the first months of the second Trump administration. from the destruction of VOA and USAID, and the new U.S. hostility to its old allies, to the abandonment of any pretense that humans right matter or that the U.S. government will pursue a values-based foreign policy. This talk will examine how the new geopolitical reality might change the behavior and the messaging of the Chinese government and Communist Party, and what to look for in official media and propaganda from Beijing to understand how trans-Pacific ties will evolve in the coming years.
