On Thursday, October 9, ICAS x World Salon is proud to host an online discussion about the change in status quo of H-1B visas. This discussion will feature Sourabh Gupta as Moderator, and Denis Simon, Tahmina Watson, Yingyi Ma, and Giovanni Peri.
Over the past several decades, the H-1B visa program has served as a key pathway for bringing highly skilled professionals into the U.S. workforce, particularly in technology, engineering, and research. It has enabled companies to fill critical gaps, support innovation, and strengthen global competitiveness. However, the program has also long been criticized for potential misuse, wage suppression, and lack of transparency. Comparisons between its benefits and risks have become even more salient in today’s tight labor markets and evolving geopolitical competition.
Ultimately, this is more than a regulatory change. It signals a redefinition of how the United States wants to position itself in a global race for high-skill workers. The decisions made now will influence where top talent chooses to go, how companies invest in human capital, and whether American innovation continues to attract the best minds from around the world.
